Mercury: A Silent Killer

The alarmingly high level of mercury vapors is a threat to human health, especially of medical and paramedical staff as well as children, highlights a study titled Mercury Levels in Air, in and around Mercury Emissions and Releases Sites in Pakistan. The study was conducted by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) in collaboration with Zero Mercury Working Group (ZMWG) and European Environment Bureau (EEB) with the financial assistance from Sigrid Rausing Trust and European Commission. The study calls for a dire need of development and implementation of mercury specific policy, legislation, including national emission standard, minimum mercury level in products and licensing protocols for private institutions.
